support to all four ASU campuses. ASU conducts pre-employment

Job Description:
Salary Range: $90,000 - $108,000 per year; depending on
experience.
Under general direction performs administrative and highly
technical functions including planning and directing the day-to day
environmental, health and safety (EHS) operations of the ASU
Research Park activities. Reports to an Associate Director.
Essential Duties:
Serves as the Macro Technology Works (MTW) and Semiconductor Safety
Officer as specified by federal, state or local requirements.
Responsible for the safe, secure and environmentally responsible
use and management of semiconductor materials, processes and
associated waste.
Provides consultation to the university community regarding best
practices and regulatory requirements for semiconductor research
materials and operations.
Recommends University based policies and procedures for
semiconductor processes to ensure compliance with ABOR policies and
university procedures, applicable laws and regulations pertaining
to the control of semiconductor research materials and
operations.
Monitors best practices related to research and academic use of
hazardous materials and processes and communicates recommended
changes to applicable policies and procedures. Administers daily
Environmental Health ; Safety (EHS) compliance activities at ASU
research park facilities.
Technological research activities, both ASU and tenant arrangements
conducted at the research park include semiconductor, solar cells,
semiconductor packaging, and other standard laboratory
operations.
Assists with updating EHS management services and programs
consistent with changes to regulatory requirements or university
policies.
In collaboration with EHS subject matter experts manages the
following programmatic areas: environmental management; hazardous
and non-hazardous waste disposal; hazardous materials, chemical,
physical, and radiation safety; occupational health and safety;
fire safety and prevention; emergency response and incident
investigations; and employee training.
Prepares and presents mandatory Site Orientation and applicable EHS
training for all personnel at the Research Park facilities.
Recommends and monitors engineering controls including, but not
limited to: pollution abatement systems, air emissions control
systems, wastewater treatment systems, storm water control systems,
toxic gas monitoring systems, chemical management systems, life
safety systems, occupational safety features and systems, fail-safe
features, barriers, access control systems, and other forms of EHS
protection.
Monitors planned Research Park facility changes. Serves as a member
of the on-call emergency response team for EHS-related incidents at
Research Park facilities.
Conducts incident investigations, recommends corrective actions,
tracks progress to completion and develops reports as required;
coordinates with EHS subject matter experts as necessary. Assists
with the development and achievement of EHS goals.
Maintains EHS records and submits required EHS reports. Represents
EHS and serves on department and university committees as
requested.
Acts as liaison with the community, students, faculty and staff in
facilitating Research Park EHS programs. Monitors and evaluates MTW
contractor performance.
Develops, implements, and evaluates EHS programs for Research Park
facility. Conducts regular EHS inspections at the Research
Park.
Directs ASU researchers and tenants regarding semiconductor
regulatory requirements. Develops, maintains, and promotes
policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with
applicable regulations, laws, and regulatory agencies.
Collaborates closely with the Facilities Engineering team,
Hazardous Materials Services team, and the Capital Programs
Management Group.
Leads safety programs related to equipment installation and
removal, while managing hazardous material usage at MTW on a daily
basis. Acts as the primary safety contact for tenants, ensuring
safe and compliant operations at MTW.
Desired Qualifications:
Masters degree in environmental engineering, physical or natural
sciences or related scientific or technical field.
Knowledge of equipment installation, modification and removal
Semiconductor Industry Procedures. Semiconductor industry
knowledge.
Self- starter, team player
Ability to operate & teach as needed Industrial hygiene safety
equipment use
Ability to take Hazwoper training and participate in an emergency
response team.
Ability to work some non-standard hours- evenings & weekends as
needed.
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office
setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and
manipulating a computer mouse 50 percent; required to stand for
varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
in cleanroom and sub fab environment 40 percent. Ability to clearly
communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform
essential functions. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing
and pulling up to 25 pounds 10 percent. Regular activities require
ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are
subject to resolution of conflicts. Regularly required to perform
work activities within a research laboratory environment subject to
potential exposure to a variety of chemical hazards. Inspection of
laboratories or other facilities that may contain hazardous
materials, equipment or processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience appropriate to
the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of
experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills
and abilities have been achieved.
